Swim Groups

Knik Swim Team welcomes you to try out our program for two weeks free!  We want to encourage new swimmers to join for recreation, fitness, fun as well as promote competitive swimming.  Listed below is a brief description of KNIK’s four training levels.  Many of our new swimmers began in our ’Learn to Swim’ programs. Our most elite swimmers, who are team oriented, promote the sport within the community and compete at Sectional competitions and beyond!

Bronze
This group is intended for our youngest swimmers and for those new from the Learn-to-swim program.  Practices will be four times per week and last 60 minutes.   The end goal is to develop a swimmer confident in all 4 strokes, starts, turns and a desire to try participating in a swim meet.  There are no attendance requirements and no pressure to compete.  An emphasis will be placed on technique development for all four strokes, starts and turns, and learning clock management.  The more advanced Bronze swimmers will be proficient in all four strokes, the IM’s, and all of the associated starts and turns.  Attendance is encouraged at 2-3 practice sessions per week.

Silver
This group is designed for our advanced age-group swimmers and our new to the sport middle school aged swimmers.  Regular attendance is encouraged at 3-4 practice sessions per week. Practices will be 90 minutes per session.  An equal emphasis will be placed on technique refinement and developing aerobic fitness.  The swimmer will be introduced to racing strategies and psychological considerations.  The swimmer will also be introduced to the benefits of dry-land training.  Regular attendance at competitions will be expected with the goal of scoring points at the Age Group, Senior and Junior Olympic Championships.

Gold
This group is designed for our most advanced and committed age group and high school aged swimmers.  Regular attendance is encouraged at 5-8 practice sessions per week (including before school and Saturdays).  Practices will be 60-150 minutes per session including 30 minutes of dry-land 2-3 times per week.  An emphasis will be placed on maximizing aerobic fitness, refinement of technique and psychological adaptations.  Regular attendance at competitions will be expected with the goal of scoring points at the Age Group Champs, Great Alaska Open, Junior Olympic Championships and qualifying for Age Group/Senior Sectional Competitions.
